GOOD THINGS!

Greetings fellow miniature enthusiasts!
I haven't posted anything since Christmas
but I'm making up for it now.

Beginning with a NEW BOOK!
Linda Park had received a copy of
The WORLD OF MINIATURES for Christmas and emailed me to show me that she found a photo of  #43 GREEN DOLPHIN STREET
included inside!
I was so excited that I ordered a copy for myself and only received it last week.
Here's the photo heading up the chapter entitled:
"GREAT OUTDOORS"

I'm SO HAPPY!!!

This book features the work of many in the miniature world whom are some of my own personal favourites
AND
who are very familiar to all of us in Blogland.
Here's a sampling of just a few of the artists in no particular order:
Josje Veenenbos
Brae Oktober
Linda Carswell
Tee Bylo
 Mulvany and Rogers
Lea Frisoni
Kim Saulter

Giac
Marion Russek...
and that's just a small sampling, there's so many more!

The photos are all in colour, and some black and white illustrations for the HOW TO's.
Captions and credits for every photo.  There's 15 chapters and 189 pages including Acknowledgements and an Index
LOVING IT!
The listed price on the jacket cover is
$35 U.S.
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

Today Feb 13th is my dear friend
FATIMA'S BIRTHDAY🤩
but
here's what she'd made me last AUTUMN for mine!
❤️❤️❤️❤️

Fat's made this vintage 2 piece suit in herringbone with fur trim and lace blouse complimented with a heirloom ruby pin.
She also made the matching wide brimmed hat
to go with it.
This outfit reminds me of what actresses wore
in the 1940's
very fitted and very movie star chic!

below Isabella is holding her new ensemble
up to the mirror
HUBBA HUBBA! 😎

  1. Oooooh.... my Dear Elizabeth... this looks like a(nother) book I must run out and buy! Congratulations on being included!!! It is always a pleasure to see pictures of the dollhouses we "know" immortalized in the pages of a beautiful book! You sure do know how to market a mini treasure trove! :):)
And I must say that gorgeous suit that Fatima made for you is just awesome! The small pattern of the fabric... the "movie star" fur trim... the "picture" hat.... Wow! I do have a soft spot for mini clothing.... one of these days (years) I plan to start making mini clothes for sure! :) Oh, and Happy Birthday to Fatima... I am sure she will be reading your blog! :):)

  4. Congratulations! How exciting! Did you know you might be included? That suit is divine. Like Betsy, I love miniature clothing, and that suit with its luxurious fur trim, lace blouse and little pin is really something special. I'm sure Isabella loves it, too. :-)

    1. Thank You for your Congratulatory comment Deborah and YES it was an Exciting Surprise! If Linda hadn't notified me I wouldn't have known anything about it at all. The photos were all culled from past issues of the U.K.'s "The Doll's House Magazine" which explains it, although I wish that they would have contacted me to let me know and I would have ordered the book long ago: que sera sera... and better late than never, as the sayings go! ;)
      And as a Super Skilled maker of small clothing yourself, it makes me Happy that you are appreciative of Fatima's little vintage suit! I must add as well, that Fats told me that she made it the night before Janine and I were scheduled to visit her: there's nothing Fats can't do once she puts her mind to it;
and Isabella and I are in complete agreement! ;D

And I find Fatima's work inspirational too! Fats enjoys challenges which is why she and her fellow coordinator Judy, are in charge of the workshops for the Miniature Club of B.C.
hmmmm? I wonder if Fats and Judy will ever do a mini dress-making project?
I'm sure that the club members would LOVE that! :D

My kids haven't seen it yet, and I'm excited to show it to them soon! :D
And I'm also excited about Fatima's Vintage suit! She never ceases to Amaze and Impress me by her generosity and her inexhaustible Talents!

AND Fatima's suit and the hat are Definitely Treasures! How she does it I don't rightly know, but it's Awesome to be on the receiving end!
A few years ago, Fatima had also made me for my birthday, a Beautiful green dressing gown with matching slippers for display in the Bedroom of Green Dolphin Street. It was a scaled down version of the costume from the movie and looks exactly the same as the one Lana Turner wore: Absolutely Marvellous! :D

I'm BLESSED to have some VERY TALENTED friends! ;D

  10. Congratulations on your entry in what looks like a must-have book for all of us mini-addicts! Your work is so incredible and does indeed deserve a spot in the august list of mini superstars. What a beautiful gift from Fatima on your last birthday. And how perfect it is for Isabella. She, by the way, is so beautiful herself. Who is the artist who produced this lovely doll? Hope you, Isabella and all your gal friends have a great "Galentine's" Day. And belated happy birthday greetings to Fatima. - Marilyn D.

    1. HI Marilyn and Thank You for your Congratulatory comment! :D
This is the first time my work has been featured in a hardcover book so it feels quite Thrilling and especially in getting a full page; what a honour! :D
And as to Isabella, she is a doll I found at the thrift store who started life as a warrior of some kind with hard plastic hair, and painted on boots with high heels. She is is ball jointed and the right height so I use her for scale however, a couple of years ago I got tired of looking at the plastic hair, cut if off and replaced it with a combed out curtain tassel, which I cut way down! Then I tried repainting her face to make her look a little less "fierce" and dressed her in clothes stripped off another thrift store doll.

She seems more user friendly now! hehehe ;D

AND it was another surprise that they never said a word about it although this book has been on the market since 2018!?
The photos were gleaned primarily, from archived features from The Doll's House Magazine but I think as a professional courtesy, it would have been nicer for the author to have informed each of the respective artists regarding this book.
But anyhoosie! I'm happy to be included, and even Happier with Fatima's stylish ensemble: tailor-made for Isabella who is super grateful for the fur stole and hat: much appreciated for this time of year! :D

  26. Dear Elizabeth,
I want to congratulate you on your work being published in a book, but honestly, the publishers have so blatantly violated copyright laws with this book, I can't be happy about it. The mention in the front of the book that 'every effort has been made to obtain permission from the copyright holders' frankly is a joke, as I know several of the copyright holders (including myself) can be found in a matter of seconds on the internet and have not been contacted at all by the author or publishers. I have contacted the publisher and agreed a financial compensation for the use of my photos in this edition of the book. The publisher told me they have had many copyright issues with this book.
So, as much as it is wonderful to see your work published, your copyright has been violated which is a serious issue!
I am sorry to dampen the mood Elizabeth, but I think it would be wrong of me to pretend all is lovely and well :-(

    1. Hi Josje and Thank You VERY MUCH for this information:
Unlike you and several other bloggers I know who specifically have a copyright posted on their blogs, I don't and never have had one, so when I sent my photos into the magazine, I simply assumed that I had forfeited any rights as to how they chose to use them later.
And again, once I saw that my photo was in the book, my thoughts were (other than not contacting me to let me know about it), that they were within their rights to reproduce the photos I'd previously submitted to the magazine as they were both part of the same publishing house.
      Obviously I was wrong :(

      elizabeth

      Delete
    2. You were not wrong, the publishers are. You do not need to put a copyright on your blog or photos, you automatically own the copyright of all of your own material. Everyone does, whether you are a highly respected artist or a Sunday afternoon hobbyist. If you submit a photo for publication, you do not give up copyright to your work, you simply allow them to publish your photo(s) in that publication. Unless you have specifically told them they could do what they liked with your photos of course but I am guessing this is not the case here. Not your fault at all. Publishers are fully aware of these laws and in this case they are aware of what they did wrong. They just choose not to contact any of the copyright holders, which of course they (or the writer) should have done in the first place. I suppose they are hoping not everyone will take action.
But it is a beautiful day for making miniatures (storming and raining outside 😉) sooo... Have a lovely Sunday!

  29. Dear Elisabeth, I love the two piece. Very elegant. and the fur trim makes it more special.

How nice to have your work featured in a book! I will order a copy for all the inspiration that it may contain.

It is a pity that they 'forgot' to ask permission to use the photo's. It is a copyright infringement. Luckily it is usualy quite simple to reolve this issue. Contact the Publisher on this matter. And if you do get an offer, have it checked by a lawyer or someone who knows a thing or two about copyright laws.

  30. How lovely to be in such company - a collection of great mini people for sure and yes, you are right up there at the top. How very naughty to publish and not tell you. If I were nit-picky (which, of course, I am) I am pretty sure you own the copyright to that picture as you took it - unless you granted it to the magazine which I am sure you didn't. My 'contract' with a magazine was so loosely woven with no mention of who owned what that you could have driven a coach and horses through it. I am only cross for you because you may never have known
