Gifts from My Friends!

" We'll be Friend's Forever won't we Pooh? asked Piglet

Even longer, ' Pooh answered - A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh

( this is Fatima in front of her 'infamous' Garfield doll's house )

I have been blessed to have two Extraordinary Friends and the fact that these two friends of mine are also both Extraordinary Miniaturist is a double blessing!

Everyone who reads my blog has heard me speak of Janine of MINWORKS ( and her sidekick hubby Bruce ) on a fairly regular basis and just in case you didn't know this already, Janine and I have been friends for about 30 years.  That number seems outrageous to me when I think about it!  But it is true!  However, I haven't known Fatima that long, maybe only since the late 90's but again, it feels like we have Always known each other and the 3 of us make up what Fats has dubbed as
 "The Miniteers".
While Janine and Bruce were away this past Spring, touring their homeland Downunder; Fats and I held the fort here and got ready for the West Coast Miniature Show which Fats actively helped organized and which took place this past June with great success.  Immediately following the show, she threw herself full throttle, into wedding plans for her daughter Sheena, and the 2 of them put on a wonderful wedding celebration where Fatima and her daughter, did the majority of the decorations, the cake and the, flowers and the entertaining of out of town guests and that
too was a resounding success!
( Fatima is a Powerhouse, a one (wo) Man show, the 'go-to' person if you want to get something done, and done RIGHT.)
So FINALLY, Janine returns after having been away for months and months. The Miniteers got together once again, meeting here at my house and Yes, we had presents for each other.  Janine brought Fats and I a wonderful Empire Sofa kit that had been on hold with her sister in Australia for a long time and here it is ....
I love this!  I have just the house to put it in when I get the Arthur doll's house finished.
I shall leave you in suspense for awhile but the kit is Perfect for that future build.
Fats also gave me something special...
She wrapped it up, and when I opened the box inside was an assortment of memorabilia of Green Dolphin Street!  Movie poster, record covers with mini albums inside and movie stills from the movie.
All Green Dolphin!

There are books and book jackets of Green Dolphin Street!
WHO KNEW THAT THERE WAS SO MUCH VARIETY!!!?
I used one of  the wonderful little books and placed it in the Parlor on the sideboard.

It is right at home there,

But there was MORE in the box that I  almost missed until Janine pointed it out.
Fats made me a Scrapbook!
Look at that cover!
And inside there was.....
YUP!
Green Dolphin Street clippings

and photos and sheet music from the movie score, and book jackets

Fats even downloaded photos of my doll's house from my blog and made them into mini photos and included them in the pages!!!
the 2 on the right are of the bedroom; bed (before bedcurtains) and the fireplace mantle
Dried flower pressed between the pages
movie stills and more of the movie score

this photo on the right, has my Parlor form the very first set up!

And this one has the fireplace and The DOOR

A vintage book jacket died flowers and the theme music from the movie

What a Wonderful Gift!
What I find so Amazing is how she finds the time to do all of the research and make this in between all of the 10,000 other things she is constantly involved in.  To see the Paris Scrapbook that she made for Janine just go to MINWORKS blog.  Janine  has had Bruce take some really professional photos of hers and She Loves It!!!

BUT THAT IS NOT ALL

Last week it was my birthday and as Jane Smith of Minifanaticus says
I'm 29 again!
heehehe
This time We 3 celebrated it at Fatima's house where we enjoyed a lovely lunch made by Fats and a Scrumptious dessert of homemade Lemon Cheesecake

(my favorite dessert)
made by Janine
THANK YOU LADIES!
Janine gave me a gift card which I have used on a non-mini present for myself
(my favorite perfume)

and Fats gave me this...
No NOT Lana Turner from Green Dolphin Street, but do you see what Lana Turner is wearing?
This is the actual REAL LIFE dressing gown that Lana Turner wore in the movie
And this is what Fats made!
a miniature copy of the real life gown from the movie
Happy Birthday to ME!!!!
And she made some matching slippers too!

The collar is hand embroidered and beadwork is added just like the real McCoy

And lets not forget the buttons that go down the front!

The fabric that she used drapes Beautifully and flows and puddles onto the floor with no effort at all
and I can even hang it on a hanger because of the way that she has made the yoke.

The slippers have real wooden heels and the tops are decorated with lace and beadwork
The workmanship is so detailed and so Perfect!!!
I can not begin to tell you how surprised and how happy I am to have this  gracing my doll's house.  So Thank You Fats and Thank you Janine for your extreme generosity.  You are both
near and dear to my heart.!

And just before I go, I would like to say that Fatima will have her web page,
BEAUXMINIS

on line very soon.
Janine and I got a sneak preview last week and I don't think that you'll be disappointed.  Fatima will be selling her wonderful and marvelous things through her site so you can all go shopping and all enjoy her many and diverse talents! :D
***

Meanwhile,

I'm going to go and play with my doll's house again.
 And
I have the
perfect place to put those  lovely green slippers...

right next to my bed!
ahhh Friends!
blessings from God

elizabeth

    1. Hi Margaret! You know I never could have imagined that both Janine and Fatima would have been so influential and significant in my life and how much our friendship which has woven us in and out of each others company could bind us so closely together, like a 3 fold cord; to each of our mutual benefits. Each of us have different strengths and weaknesses and yet we neither conflict nor hinder the growth of the other. THEY make ME a better person just being around them, and I hope that we will always continue this way. As to the movie, I was never satisfied about Lana Turner playing 'Marianne' because she was far too beautiful for the role but she does have a strong willed and forceful personality that was entirely in character with the novel. For that alone I will say she played the part well, but I STILL prefer the BOOK! :))

    1. Hello Claude! Yes these gifts were beautifully customized to fit the doll's house and I have found spaces for every one of them!
I am excited for Fats to get working again on her Garfield house because then we can help Her fill it up with Miniature Goodies just as she is doing with Janine's French house and My English one. I have only one other friendship that I have had even longer than with Janine, 30 years is a very a long time yet it has passed by so very quickly. Time does that a Lot, now that I am 29!

      (again) :D

  6. Dear Elizabeth, Great photos and a great day. The little dressing gown is a marvel. The fabric Fatima used is a jersey - so difficult to work with in miniature. The colour could be described as light olive green. The colour is a perfect match for the Original gown sold recently at auction. The drape of the jersey is fascinating as it flows like water and as the fabric moves it gathers light. Really it is the most wonderful work of art not to mention the embroidery on the collar. Fatima also carved the heels of the elegant slippers.
Yes, I have two powerhouse friends who are a bit hard to keep up With I admitwith but they simply whirl you along with them.

    1. Hello My Dear Friend! Again a Big THANK YOU, Janine!!! :D I agree it WAS a Great Day and You and Fats made it Unforgettable! The dressing gown is a marvel of ingenuity, it has weight and yet it drapes so fluidly doesn't it? Fatima manages to make it all look so effortless too.... "Oh just a little something I whipped while I was watching T.V." heehee What a lot of patient research goes into each piece she does and what precision in the end product! What a gift! :D

I have used it and love it! Janine is One Fabulous Gardener, well as miniaturist and because she lives with Boundary Bay, lapping right at her back door, she has brought over bags of cleaned and harvested seaweed ( and other great stuff), for me to use to top dress my garden. What a difference it made to the roses last year! I used up the last of it last week and hope that she reads this comment so that she will maybe? Bring Me Some MORE next time she is out this way! hahaha ( I'm so greedy)

( and Janine is especially gifted in reading between the lines) I agree that the dressing gown is a Marvel and Fats has excelled with it and it fits right into the bedroom; it was Meant to be!!! I am LOVING the fact that you read the book because of my mentioning it elsewhere on another blog. I reread it probably every four years and enjoy it more each time. The movie came out in the 40's I think and as it happens I not long ago, found an old copy of the movie in the thrift store on VHS that I need to eventually get transfered onto a disk. It looks like I am now "Green Dolphined All Over the place"; not a bad way to be when among friends! :D

What is most special is the effort and the thought behind the gift. Fatima certainly is a talented miniaturist and I really look forward to her blog coming on line. I often see items she has pinned on Pinterest and I love her taste in miniatures. Happy belated 29th! Janine's lemon cheesecake sounds devine.

    1. Sharee I agree 100%!!! The special effort and the thoughtfulness of these gifts strikes me as more precious than anything else! No aspect of the gifts were without an unusual amount of effort, and I have to tell you that Fatima is the World's Greatest Detective! She is better than Sherlock Holmes, Columbo or even Miss Marple! She researches and finds Everything she is looking for; and rather than get frustrated and upset, like I do and then give up; she is tenacious and like a Hound dog on the trail, she keeps at it until she gets her man, or should I say,- her MINI! :D It is Hard not to Love her so I don't even try, I just DO!
Thank you for the Birthday Wishes Sharee! I now have a LOT of experience in being 29 so often. I can practically be 29 with my eyes shut! In fact, that IS exactly how I like to view this Third go-round of being 29,... with my eyes tightly shut!!! haha ( hear no wrinkles, see no wrinkles, speak no wrinkles )

I was gob-smacked before but now even More So! How totally Clever and so Beautifully Done! I take my hat off to Fats! The little slippers are such an added treat and the books, The Scrapbook and all of the memorabilia... well it has all been a wild ride on the back of the Green Dolphin!

I agree that Friendships are both beautiful and wonderful and How Happy am I that both of these dear ladies have the same passions and also that we live within an hours drive from each other too! With so many out-side non-mini activities that each of us are involved in, we get together infrequently but are otherwise in close contact by phone and by mail. However when we DO manage to sneak in a visit, we gab away until the cows come home! It amazes each of us that we enjoy talking and visiting together even more than making minis together! Just Call us Kindred Spirits!

    1. Hello Sans! I loved your last posting of the Sans doll sculpture! That was such an AMAZING Work of Art!!! I can see that it personified you to a "T" Sans, so Thank You for sharing it will all of us!
I have always enjoyed Winnie the Pooh and have memorized several of A. A. Milnes verses from 'When We Were Very Young' and 'Now We Are Six'. The books of verse are favorites of my mom too, so when I saw this quote I thought of her as well as the friendships I have with Fats and Janine. Simple and straight to the point and the heart of the matter. And I couldn't have said it any better if I tried! :D

  35. Hello My dear Friend and Thank you for your generous comment! I accept your Good Wishes of 'health and happiness and a desire to create' with great enthusiasm! :D I love to work with my hands (and my head) and I pray God that He will allow me to continue to do so and count it as a Great Blessing if I can. I have to agree with you that each of the gifts- the sofa, the memorabilia, the scrapbook and the clothing items were all wonderfully thought-filled gifts that made them doubly special and cherished because they were made with love, by my very dear and long-time friends. Who could ask for anything more?
    Enjoy your weekend Tatiana! :D

The Scrapbook is such a treasure and I with all of your own Considerable talents, I am Sure that not only could you make one for your own mini living room but scaling down the photos of your doll's house to include within the pages would be a lovely way to personalize your own efforts in mini. Having such special friends to share my passion with is so incredibly important and I know that they are truly a blessing in my life. When the 3 of us go to a show together we are on a High for days afterwards!!! If you can go to one Lindsey, I HIGHLY recommend it, they are More fun than riding on a roller coaster! :D

  40. Beautiful, amazing little replicas of things you love - what could be more perfect as a gift from a friend (as well as her friendship). These are the moments in life when we know just how lucky we are in some things. Every time you see them they will make you smile. remember to visit them on a glum day. (My birthday was 12 November - nearly twins!)

I DO indeed smile whenever I look at the offerings within the house that represent both of my friends. They bring to mind the occasions of both 'Celebration' as well as those 'Just Because', and of Good times and Great Company!

  42. Dear Studio E followers
I feel compelled to express how moved I am with all of the great comments about our friendship above all (Janine, Elizabeth and I) and also about the two items I gifted Elizabeth. I also need to say, if I haven't yet, that the only reason these gifts are so accepted by the mini community is because I had such great role models in both of my friends.
So thank you, thank you! But I do feel the pressure is on to perform with all of the promos which Elizabeth is giving me for my website that maybe I'm getting scared to go live which I won't be able to do so until the new year.
    Mini HUGS to all.
