"HAL YAY YOU YA!" ( the bedroom of #43 )

                                                                  *******
When my sister Catherine's daughter, Amber, was just a small child, she use to come running into my sister's bedroom, first thing every morning, jump into her mother's bed and sing,
"It's a great new day mommy,... Hal yay you ya!"

Today, I also am singing "Hallelujah!"
This bedroom of #43 Green Dolphin Street is pretty much Done, Finished, Over!
After just staring at it for nearly a month, I finally got the old mojo up and moving again and plowed through it to nearly the finished line and so Here it is finally ......   'Hal yay you ya!'
Rise and Shine!

The sun is up and streaming through the bedroom window and falls first on the contents on the top of the hand- painted chest of drawers
***
This chest of drawers is dressed with assorted perfume bottles, photos and lighting.
All of the perfume bottles are made by me from my collection of baubles and beads .  They are displayed on half of a silver locket which I found at the thrift store,  and which made a perfect vanity tray. I also made the picture frames and the pocket watch on a fine chain from jewelry findings and various odds and sods .  There is a chinese mud figurine that is a reference to the novel Green Dolphin St. when William, the hero, is shanghaied  in China.  The tilting mirror was a gift from a friend and the globe lamp is by Ni-Glo.

In this cottage, the vintage lighting is 'upgraded' to electric so that I can use a great variety of styles and mix it all up as desired.
This little chest of drawers is by author unknown, but it is such a pretty piece of furniture!   It is hand-painted on both  sides as well as the top and on the 4 drawer fronts, which all open but are not yet filled.  On the left you can see a brown leather bound journal that Janine of MINWORKS made for me.  It has a metal clasp and two tiny letters tucked inside that peek out from the top .
( Perhaps, Love letters that William might have written to Margarite, the sister in the novel that William had loved and meant to marry, but didn't. )
The left side of the bedroom

To the left of the dresser is the bed.   I added some cotton fringe to the edge of the bedspread, new since my last posting, and I like the effect.  The picture is in the same position as before but now there are wood beams framing the walls.  The beams are made from the cedar flooring that is included as part of the Greenleaf doll house kits;  horrible for floors but great for rough ceiling beams!  I glazed over the wall paper and muddied it up a Lot!  You can see the streaks of the glaze that should have been better applied than it was, but no matter.....  The subtle pattern is now a whole lot harder to distinguish, and that is Good, because the fireplace wall was different  paper pattern and now it  blends in better, and the difference won't now be so obvious.

( hallelujah)
I like the look of the walls to be rather 'old' looking, although I feel I was a little over generous with the glaze in some spots!
 sigh....
too much of a good thing, this time, but it does add more atmosphere.
Fresh laundry

Ah, I see that the laundry has just been brought up and is on the bed waiting to be put away.   I wonder where, because there is no cupboard in this room;
But anyway, doesn't it look pretty?
An overview of the left side of the bedroom and bed.

Folded Bed linen and on top;
 some fresh ladies handkerchiefs

And on the carpet,

a leather satchel that I purchased many years ago at the Seattle Show.  It has a couple of straps with tiny buckles and stitched handles, very Victorian looking.  The area rug is photocopied from a magazine and then onto fusible cotton copy-paper purchased from Wal-Mart. I then glued the copy paper   onto thin wool felt to give it some body.  The package instructions suggest that you iron it onto your project, but I found that some of the color faded out when I did it before and so I by-passed that step and just cut out the print, spray glued the back and adhered it to the felt and then cut the carpet shape from the felt.  I touched up any white edges and then installed into the bedroom.   This is not the carpet I had originally planned to use but  I ended up choosing it because of the bold floral pattern that picked up the more delicate painted design on the chest of drawers.  Blues and terra cotta, russet and browns,  are a running theme in both the Parlor and the Bedroom.  The colors in the rug are big, bold and strong enough to downplay the pattern in the vintage linoleum that is on the  floor.  Mixing these two patterns, one on top of the other, is not always easy and yet to me I like the unique strangeness of this combination.
A closer look at the bag
and the rug
And tucked under the bed, is an old suitcase a long ago purchase,  that is used for extra storage in this room.   When planning this space, it came down to whether I desired a fireplace or a closet for clothes in this bedroom and I opted for the fireplace, so the overflow of any extra clothes has to be stored under the bed.
Looking towards the right  side of the room you can see the second half of a folding screen, that I made  ( the other half is downstairs in the Parlor).  It was made using a magazine photo and pasting it onto mat board and then cutting into panels and sealing with paint and glaze.  It carries the terra cotta color that is initially introduced on the walls and also in the area rug and in the pattern on the curtains.
The screen serves no other purpose than to fill a corner.  Some storage boxes are right in front of it on the floor.  The boxes contain the toiletries and other necessities that are not able to be stored elsewhere in this cupboard-less cottage
the ceiling fixture
Above the curtained window hangs a milk glass chandelier.  This is a standard commercial fixture that use to have a plain white shade.  I customized it with a very thin layer of Pink Gallery Glass Paint, followed with a touch of Amber glass paint.  It gives a softer glow when lit.  Right behind the hanging lamp is an oval framed vintage picture of a still life with fruit.  No doubt more kitchen/ dining room appropriate but I like it here anyway.  Sometimes, things don't necessarily seem logical but are 'quirky bits' that make the space seem more personal and real.  I have many art pieces in my own home that I mix in with the unexpected and they work beautifully together.  Personally, I like things to compliment and to harmonize, but to Not Match if possible,

and Other than the bed comforter and the curtains, nothing else in this room is a perfect match.
The fireplace wall.
 This wall is not yet entirely finished and later I will show you what is left to do , but as you can see, it is upright and the lights are on and the mirror is anchored and I've added a medallion above the mirror and painted it out to look like a carving in the wood panel.  In reality it is a gold plastic button backing that had an interesting cut-work pattern and a flat back. It eats up some of that dead zone between the mirror and the ceiling without being too obvious;

 there but not there.
and on the mantle,
I've opted to keep the mantle rather sparse, unlike the mantle in the Parlor which is fully loaded.  This display features a pierced porcelain plate that I purchased at the West Coast Miniature Show this past June.  I found the plate stand in my junk box only just recently.  The bronze French calvary officer is a RISK gaming piece.  This was an older edition that had French Napoleonic soldiers, canon  calvary and infantry in boxes of colored plastic armies that you tried to 'conquer the world' with.  I  bought the game for my son's Christmas Present, many years ago.   When he got tired of 'thrashing his foes'  he put the game away.  I would  secretly raid the game pieces and steal a soldier from each color.  Later, I would paint and age them with different finishes.  Fortunately, My son never missed these casualties of war, and now the company who makes the game RISK, uses only generic blocks for colored armies rather than these little figurines.  Boy, was I thinking ahead or What!!???
( heeheehee )
yes I know...
My Bad
Detail of the front of the fireplace and the mantle and mirror
These bronze baby shoes and the double  baby photograph is from
FATS.  Isn't it wonderful?
She's such a clever lady!
An overview of the fireplace wall.  I have a William Clinger Windsor chair, stationed to the right of the fireplace, with a slouchy toile cushion on it, which at least gives the lady of the house a place to sit and read comfortably, sip a cup of coffee or tea  and/or put on her shoes.  Visually, it balances the  visual 'weight' to the right of the fireplace.
A closer look at the focal point of the bedroom
and the 3 storage boxes in the corner, on the floor.
the coal fire
I made a coal fire for the fireplace and discovered that if you use Gallery Glass 'Lead' Paint, it gives a very dense and realistic looking charcoal briquette.  I let it dry a bit and then squeezed on a tiny bit of gel school glue and then topped  it with some Real Life ashes from my Real Life fireplace and let it fall onto the hearth as well
 Real Ashes!
A nice warm fire to curl up next to
The sun is still up
so let's do a quick review
***
The view with the lights off and the sun light streaming through the curtained window.  I like this photo.  It looks like it could be a garret room in a tall walk-up apartment somewhere in Paris.
View from the top
With the lights on
and
My very favorite shot with the lights off and only the sun shining in.
 I Love this picture!
So this is the end
 and this is my
 Vintage Victorian  Bedroom,
as it stands right now.   It is finished ..... well almost .  All it needs now is a

  1. Dear Elizabeth,

    1. Hi Dorien! I am so pleased that you like this room, Thank You so much for saying so. I know that the old linoleum is rather unusual and the rug atypical but I think that they work well together in this room, too. I am very pleased that the suitcase under the bed is only just visible because it helps to understand the lack of available storage. In reality, Dorien, I have a stuffed suitcase under my bed as well. I never have enough storage and neither does this mini lady! My next project is making the bedroom door so that the little lady will have access to the loo and I only hope that I don't run out of Mojo again before I can get to it! :D

This is a room that is one that I know that I could sleep quite comfortably in every night and then awaken to birdsong and sunshine caressing the pastel color of the walls. Ahhhhhh

  4. Hello Elizabeth,
Amazing! quite simple amazing! Once again your finished room has a completeness about it and an attention to detail that is unparalleled! I say it often, but it really looks like a life size room and I feel like I have been through it. Amazing! The room is so beautiful that the pictures could be made into post cards. I love the carpet and the wall treatment is wonderful. Some pictures made me think of Brooke Tucker's work. Elizabeth, you said it best: HAL YAY YOU YA! In future, when you do not feel inspired, take all the time you need because when you get inspired, you do so with a vengeance. Lady Elizabeth, the 10th muse!

Yes, I do seem to work by going from zero to 60; more often than not. Things can only simmer for so long inside my head, before they finally boil over and that is when I start getting busy! I am so glad that the look of this space appears Real to you, Giac! That is my objective but a lot of is due to the camera! I think that I must be getting better at taking pictures, because I am even surprising myself!
Again a Big thank you and also a Big Hug!

    1. Hello Fabiola! Thank your for your compliment! It is the details that I like too and I am glad that you enjoy the ceiling! Fitting those pieces together was a real pain initially and there were quite a few gaps that were not so pretty. By trimming everything out with the packaged wood floor strips, that I split in half lengthwise, I was able to seal the gaps and give some extra detail to the ceiling. The wood is so thin that it is easily cut with regular scissors and since I have lots of it, it was also economical! Thanks Faby, for your comment!

  6. Hi Elizabeth, Sam here,
Your title made me think of the Chris Rice song, "Cartoons". If you haven't heard it you should look it up. It is cute and funny. (Hal yay you ya!)
On another note, this bedroom is exquisite! Your detailing is amazing.I agree with Giac, it is post card-picture worthy.
And by the way, fresh laundry on the bed is adorable! (I wish my laundry would magically appear clean and folded on the bed.)
You are an incredible miniature artist and an inspiration to me. Thank you for your lovely posts and for being you!

    1. THANK YOU, SAM! I googled up the "Cartoon" song and I LOVE IT! Scooby do be do Ya! My sentiments exactly!
Thank you also for your wonderful compliments, Sam! I love adding the Extras that make a house truly a home. The laundry was a last minute decision. I have stacks of it and have given a lot to Janine to use in her Chateau 'Bird' bedroom over at MINWORKS. She actually has a cupboard to put it in. I decided I wanted to use up some of what I still have. Usually it has a silk ribbon around it and a label, but I took it all off and left it loose so that it would appear to have been just brought upstairs. I love the look of things just lying around, waiting to be eventually retrieved by the occupant. It leaves the viewer waiting expectantly as well!
I am delighted with the Look and I am especially pleased, that you have enjoyed it too!

    1. Thank you so very much, Grandmommy! I am all about the Mood! Trying to capture just the right one to suit the interior is always a challenge and I know when I am off the mark and when I am on. This room has undergone several revisions trying to get that elusive something that I chased down and finally was able to capture! My Parlor is very congested and fussy and with something decorative on every wall and on every surface. In this room, I pared it down so that there would be a restfulness mood and an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, with just enough details to make it interesting to view. I am so happy that you have enjoyed it and the photography, Grandmommy. That is a great compliment to me seeing as how bad I was when I first began this blog! Hal yay you ya!!!!

How can such small items transport my mind into such a grand place?

How do you use a simple bead and have me smelling a waft of beautiful perfume.

While everything is the most lovely, my favorite touches are the ashes and the suitcase, because its like finding a little secret place within a already magic scene.

    1. Awww Sweet Jane! Such a romantic and poetic comment, THANK YOU! Making those perfume bottles was fun! They are the most simple of any styles that I have ever done. In reality, though it is not advisable to leave your fragrances exposed to any direct sunlight, but artistic license had to come into play, as I really wanted the Light to pass through them, as Tatiana mentions in her comment. So I had to throw caution to the wind and perhaps that is what you are also smelling as well as the Chanel no.5, Jane.... heeheehee!
I am so glad that you like the suitcase under the bed and the ashes on the hearth. When I was applying the ash on top of the glue, I was thinking of You, Cinderella and those FANTASTIC LITTLE MICE that you have just posted about! They are such cute little critters! You are one fantastic artist, and I thank you for your lovely and enchanting words!

I really want all of my work to look Lived- in and cozy, Jennifer, cause usually the person living in the dollhouse is Me! Me, as the garderner or the child or, as in this case, the lady living at # 43 Green Dolphin Street! I scale myself down, just like Mrs. Tittlemouse, and I go in and out and up and down, dusting and cleaning and tidying up! Busy, busy, busy! At the end of the day, I flop down on to the vintage bed, say my prayers and fall right to sleep. In the morning when the sun is teasing my eyelids open, I look around at the pastel colored room and sing in my heart " Praise God,... It's a Great New Day, Halelujah!

I believe that every single piece of the accessories, is a way to tell you more and give you a picture in your head of the mini occupant, so that you can put yourself into the scene too! Thank you for calling this room Elegant and also Cozy!
I think that this is a good description. I always think of the French woman as very elegant! This cottage has it origins based on the novel Green Dolphin Street, and Two sister's in it, are of French nationality and culture, and living in the English Channel Islands! They live with a foot in each country being right in the middle of each nation and that is translated as a Big part of the development of this stone cottage bedroom. The bedspread is actually a cut up man's thermal undershirt and it has the texture of old Chenille, very vintage looking. I found a great source for the making of the cotton fringe, Wyrna, and if you like I can share with you how I did it. It is very easy and very effective and very CHEAP! hahahha Always a Plus!

That lets me know that I have succeeded with this room, Elena, when you place your own self within the scene!
One of my very favorite smells is that of laundry that has dried on the clothes line and then ironed. It reminds me of my Great Grandmother who use to take in ironing to supplement her income. She would have the laundry rolled into balls that she had sprinkled with some water earlier and then she would proceed to iron them slightly damp, and I would sit under the ironing board and listen to her sing along to the hymns on the radio or she would tell stories of when she was a pioneer up from Oklahoma and into Alberta, Canada. Her stories
were enthralling when she told them with the steam from the iron hissing above my head. Since then, I have a real fondness for stacked miniature Laundry, a tribute to my great grandma, Mattie Mae Casey!

When my grandmother used to tell me stories while ironing above my head, I was very young and I listened but I have forgotten most of what she said with the exception of just one or two tales. You say that you also are a pioneer!? Fascinating, Elena. Write it down your stories because it is so important for them to be able to be passed on! I never thought of how important it was until I was grown up and my grandmother, had passed on and those stories went with her. :( But the memory of her telling them to me is what I will Always cherish.

You had earlier, asked me about seeing the curtains and in wanting to get them up, the wall the lights, the roof the window, etc, etc. all had to be installed prior to that happening. I ran head first into some major roadblocks along the way but I would not be detoured and pressed on, gaining momentum as each next step was accomplished. In the end, I surprised myself at how much of a Parisian garrett it began to look like; but then I am always surprised at how the rooms finally decide how They want to look! 1. Good morning Rosethe'! I am so pleased to hear that you are wanting to sit in the chair and Dream! What a lovely compliment! I find the draw to inhabit this room , irresistible to me too, Rosethe! I love the sound of a fire burning, hearing it crackle and watch all the Shadows cast from the flames. I use to have a Real Life arm chair that I nicknamed The Sleepy Chair, because that was where I was sure to fall asleep, especially with a book in my hands; age will do that to you, won't it? :) Never fear though, Rosethe', a door to the loo is on its way, but feel free to dream here a little while longer, if you please!

I can sit and watch it for a very long time and can almost fall into a trance by watching the movement of the flames! The mind can play tricks on you and I know what you mean by getting spooked by the strange shadows on the walls. A cheap thrill, yes? haha

  23. Absolutely stunning every little inch of it. The clean linen has obviously been left there until she can get round to changing the bed (now you don't need a place to put it) - clean hankies in the drawer, bed changed and dirty laundry downstairs. I grew up in a bedroom with absolutely no drawers or chest or wardrobe or anything - clothes got folded and shoved in an airing cupboard on the landing. Reasonably comfortable Victorians usually managed with a trunk and a chest of drawers. Lucky if they had three frocks. So this lady has ample room. I bet her suitcase is full of bits and bobs - mementos collected over the years. Do you have a post on how you made the lovely curtains - Iwant those so much for my Chocolat?

    1. Em, what a great explanation and what a Terrific Reference you are! THANK YOU! This occupant is living in a slightly renovated cottage and has a love for all things Victorian but she does manage to live with the less is more credo with regard to her clothing especially. When I was working as a flight attendant ( back in the stone age), we use to pack our suitcases with the one to wear, one to wash and one at the ready, for whenever we had a layover for any length of time and so that is what I am using to help this mini lady and her miniscule wardrobe! Quality over quantity!
Later, I shall attempt to make a few things to fill the drawers. Sarah,( see below) has a Fantastic tutorial on the making of a Victorian camisole and drawers which I shall try to make although my skills with a needle are nearly non-existent. That applies tot the curtains, Em.

I made them first by dying the fabric in a bath of strong tea which I placed in the microwave to boil the stain into. When I had wrung it out and removed the excess water, I gave it a heavy spray with starch and then used a pretty pleater to form the pleats. I left it to dry and then I removed it from the pleater and cut the widths of each panel and glued a hem on each side of the lengths, but not on the widths. When I finally installed the window, I measured the drop I needed from the rod and cut the length. I used some fabric glue to seal both ends top and bottom. I sewed some jump rings to the top of the pleats and used the cut off curtain length for a ruffle which was lightly gathered and also sewn to the top. For all the raw edges on both the ruffle and at the bottom of each curtain, I used a tiny bit of gel paint applied with a small brush. It gave just enough definition and acts like a hem without the added bulk. I didn't want these to look anything but home- made, Em so I hope that you will forgive the rather sloppy mess I made with sewing the rings to the curtain top but as I say, sewing is not my strong point, but there you have it! I hope that helps and let me know if you still want a step-by-step because I could do one for you, just like Sarah did a tutorial when I asked about the Bloomers and the Camisole. Just be prepared. From a distance my sewing will Pass the Muster, up close you may well Throw the Mustard!

  24. Elizabeth, this looks fantastic, everything works so well together, i think real rooms naturally grow over time anyway, if everything matches it just looks like everything was bought from one place on the same day and a bit like a catalogue. Doing it the way you did it, gives it more atmosphere. The fireplace looks great too!

P.s. your son didnt notice his risk figurines missing, thats what you think :D My mum knew for years i dismantled her hair ornament to make a dolls dress, but didn't say at the time :D

  26. Hi Sarah! THANK YOU! I couldn't agree more about a room growing naturally. I think that the most interesting rooms are the ones that are the most reflective of the personality of the owners, and that have an accumulations of furnishings that come from travels, family, friends, the roadside, etc. etc ..... I had a coworker who had acquired an AMAZING kitchen work table that she and her husband had found in an abandoned barn, covered with bird droppings. They carried home strapped to the top of their Volkswagen and after she had cleaned off all the filth, and stripped it down, she meticulously refinished and restored it, and that table was Absolutely STUNNING! I think that the stories behind the items contributes to what makes a room come alive, because they bring their own history into any space and whisper their stories in your heart and mind. So I am delighted that you like the way that I have furnished this bedroom Sarah. I like to imagine that each piece in it, comes with a tale to tell.

And as to my son; He is Still unaware cause he is a guy,... but with my daughter, I would Never have 'Risked it'! :D

  30. Elizabeth, once again you have created a room that is so real and full of atmosphere, ie 'lived in'. It is in the details. Each of your rooms tell a story of its occupant. As far as things not matching I remember a designer saying that is a dirty word in design. He said blend things but don't be scared of contrast and surprise. I love the carpet design and your method of making it. I am keen to have a go. I won't list all the things I love in this room or it will make my comment much lengthier than it is already. I do have to say I love the suitcase poking out from under the bed though. Another beautiful room created. Hal yay you ya!

    1. Hi Sharee, Thank you so very much!:D I know that you know that NOTHING pleases me more than to have Atmosphere in my rooms! Glue spots and over-glazing and blobs of paint can all stay, and even be excused, so long as they bring some atmosphere to the setting! hahaha
I am so glad that you like the carpet Sharee. I think that was one of the most difficult choices that I had to make for this room. I took about 10 different rug prints options and laid them on the lino and then took a photo of each of them and then reviewed each one on film. I finally narrowed it down to 3 and then finally to this one and then chose some of the other items to help tie it all together. When I decided to print the rug, I got the printable cotton sheet in upside down. :[ Fail. 2nd time success and you know the rest .... :)
The suitcase was a fun detail to add. Brae ( at Otterine, ) has 3 FANTASTIC suitcases showcased in her Haunted Heritage Attic. The suitcase under the bed here, won't stand up to such scrutiny, but it does looks Perfect almost entirely hidden. hahaha

I have a question... How do you put your bedding on? Do you sew it on, glue it on? Spray it with some sort of stiffener?
    hugs♥,
    Caroline

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Caroline! Thank you so much for your wonderful words! They really mean a lot to me! :D
As to the bedding, It would depend on what it was. If it is a sheet, then I glue it to the underside of the mattress. A top sheet, I only glue the tucked in portion, to keep it tucked in. For the bedcover, I use both glue and pins and for the coverlet, I use mostly pins, hidden in the folds and if necessary glue in the most strategic spots. To apply the fringe, I just used glue. Lucille got me hooked on Aleen's Fast Grab Tacky, which is very thick and works on nearly everything. I used it for the bedding because it doesn't bleed through like the fabric glues that I had been using. I use to use Velverette fabric glue which was the BEST for fabrics even silks, but Alas, it has gone the way of the Dodo bird..... and is No More.......:(
I hope that this was helpful, Caroline!

Although I have long ago decided that I will not try to make anything Victorian, somehow, I relate to your room. Like the fact that it has no cupboard, just like the bedroom in my tribal house. The lady of the house also uses a chest she put under the bed for clothes.

Or how you love harmony but not mitchy matchy. :) Or the blue of the fireplace.

Yes, an understatement but I will still say it, a beautiful room...sighhhhhhh :)

    1. Good Morning Sans! I LOVE your comments! Thank You!
Many moons ago, I was collecting Victorian lighting fixtures and over time I have accumulated a fair bit. Wanting to use up some of what I already had of the Victorian style lamps, has dictated to a great degree, the development of this interior space. I like to think of this as a Victorian cottage that has been gently up-graded to include some modern conveniences for a contemporary occupant; a 21st century woman who is susceptible to the romance of the Victorian age, and likes to be surrounded by references to it. That allows me to indulge in all the romance of the age of Innocence as well as having the pleasure of including the more modern lamps, perfumes, fridge for the kitchen etc., that were not true of that era. Although I would not chose this style to live in In Real Life, I could certainly live in it, in Miniature.:D And I am so glad that you are able to relate to it as well, Sans! That, of course, makes me Very Happy!

  39. Morning Elizabeth,
So good to hear from you as always...........your comments are always such a blessing. Sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you, been
a bit busier than usual these days, not complaining, just saying............

Yea, I have to say the Lord has really used listing my blessings every week to absolutely transform my life they last 4+ years, so I highly recomment it to anyone. If you are like me, it will probably do way more for you than it does for others, sort of like teaching...........but it
    is a wonderful thing.

Yes, I know and love that song........count your blessings...........I think when people are too busy, they really miss out on seeing what is
right before their eyes, because their minds are just whirling whirling with their busyness. Think that is one thing I have loved about getting
older, you get the wisdom to slow down some, cause you don't have the energy you used to have either..........so it is really a good thing.

Now about your lovely dollhouse bedroom..............
Oh my goodness, you never cease to amaze me with the great painstakingly wonderful details. It is a very warm and welcoming room, and indeed does look so historic. Loved the idea of the linens on the bed. Very cute idea.........

It looks like a room one might wish to stay in at a Bed & Breakfast.
You did a fantastic job on it, and know how wonderful that feels to finish a project that you have been working on for a long time.
Indeed the Halleleujah chorus is befitting!! lol

Keep up the great work, it truly is inspiring.........

  40. Hi Nellie! Thanks for your wonderful comment and I truly appreciate it! There are so many discouraging things in life and we are all confounded by them and how to handle them when the floods descend upon us. In my immediate family there are some serious health issue to contend with. I am praying always for the relief of the suffering of those that are near and dear to me. But God is making me wait and waiting can make me feel hopeless as well as helpless. That is why I have been so energized by your Thankful Thursdays. When I see how God has already been working things out in so many different areas that I have ignored because I am only looking in one direction, God has been answering prayers in another area and wants me to be thankful for those answered prayers. Recognizing God at work, strengthens my faith and my hope flourishes once again, reminding me that God hears And has the power to restore.
As I was walking the dog, the other day, I began making a list of my own of what to be Thankful for, which alleviated a lot of the worry about the major health concerns bombarding my loved ones. It is hard still, but I am thankful that God knows what to do about it even when I don't!

It really makes me happy that you are enjoying this room Jonquil. When I was visiting your blog and you were talking of taking your house from being strictly period and deciding to include those items that made YOU happy and what you wanted in your mini home, I was saying Hooray! It gave your rooms a different atmosphere immediately and that little gramophone fits in like it has always been there!
That is what I was trying for here. To put things that would look Victorian in atmosphere, but would be things that you could live with today! The windows are Housework windows that I added extra glazing bars to, and also a wavy piece of acetate to act as old glass! They are Clear but Not Perfectly Clear. Just the way I like it! :D
