THE 'SKINNY' ON 'FATS'

This post is to introduce a woman that you have heard me mention many times, my friend Fatima aka 'Fats'.  Fatima is 'retired' to a life of constant activity.  She is ALWAYS in high demand because she gets the job done!!!  As you are all aware, by now, I am close to illiterate when it comes to the computer.  Learning the lingo, and trying to find my way through the various functions has been like 'the Nightmare on Elm Street,' at times.  Hit the wrong key and..... Huh??.....WHaaaaaaa!!!!  And this is where Fats comes in.  She has helped coach me thru the maze and find my way out of blog no man's land.  She gives me solid advise on what and how I'm doing and how I can improve the quality of my blog.  She is serious about minis and works to help me and others learn more and share more. Years ago,  I met her as a friend of Janines and even then she was multi- tasking and involved in numerous projects; building homes with her husband, sailing, and raising a family while sailing, running a business... as well as being fully involved in her various charities and fund raisers etc etc  When I knew her first, she was not into minis, but Now she has OUT-MINIed me.  She is active in the Miniature Club of British Columbia(  M.C.B.C.) and organizing the West Coast Dollhouse and Miniature show and has set up a Web Page for it and is working on' THE GARFIELD' and you all know how BIG that house is!!!!  Fats  really enjoys working with fimo, she knits, sews, crafts, cooks,(and I don't mean a sandwich for dinner) excels at wood- working and turns wood on her own lathe.  She lays floors with intricate inlay and is very precise and particular about her work.  UNlike me, she doesn't look for short cuts or quick fixes.  She is like MIKE HOLMES, Canada's national and #1 handy-man; she "makes it right". She told me her dad was a wood worker so I guess Sawdust is in her blood.  Anyway, with all that is currently on her agenda, she took the time to drive over and  helped me to find the deleted blog and get it back and showed me a few new computer tricks that I'm sorry to say that I've already forgotten.  (And hopefully she won't ask me any skill testing questions when she and Janine come over next week!?.)  You should have seen her hunched over my laptop, scrutinizing the screen when her first attempts to get me linked failed.  She was challenged, but not being a quitter she was determined to WIN and get it going and she did.  What a Woman, and what a Friend. A 'Portuguese Powerhouse.' Thanks, Fats!

  1. Hello Elizabeth,
Now that is a person that commands respect! I love people who embrace life and make the most out of every moment. Please give Fats a great big hug from me! We need more of her kind.
Good luck with the technical issues...I'd tell you what I think of computers most of the time...but I don't feel like being vulgar today.
    Big hug,
    Giac

    1. Hi Giac! I could't agree more! She has made a comment posted directly below this one, so Everybody can now see a face to go with the name. Fats, Giac sends you a 'BIG HUG' ( and that is from one fantastic wood crafter to another! ) Yes, we all need people to get the jobs done, and we also need people to dream up the jobs in the first place, some to produce the materials to carry out the dream, some to supervise and technically advise, and encourage.. .the list goes on and on.
Which shows us how we are all inter-connected and interlaced to share with each other to make it all happen! Hey, Why do your comments always get me to talking so much,Giac???
      Big Hugs to you too

  2. Good morning Elizabeth....as in the past few weeks after hubby leaves for work, I made my way over to the computer, coffee in hand, to see what amazing work or story you might have posted the night before...or should I say early morning. And I have to admit I am a little speechless (hubby will say that is impossible)....but yes and so humbled by all your kind words. I do what I can and when I can. Thank you Dear friend. So very happy to have reconnected with Janine and you, both of whom I have always admired and taken into very high consideration. Big Hugs and big thanks for all your kind words. BTW...this has been up on my screen for about 1/2 hour as I felt I needed to reply.....

  3. Elizabeth, she sounds like a fantastic lady and I think that you and Janine and her are fortunate to have found one another. I tried to join Fatima's blog but I'm not familiar with the sort of arrangement she has. I see more of that these days and I have no idea how to go about it. Perhaps because I don't have a blog, I can't be part of the circle, I don't know. Anyways, perhaps with time, I will succeed. Today, I will try and find some time to dress a bed. It's a bed that I made out of bits and pieces. It's one of those Edwardian metal beds. It was a very difficult build, well, for me anyways since I don't have much experience!

  4. Yes she is, Lucille ! Fats coined the name the MINITEERS for the 3 of us; one for all and all for one! Fats, doesn't have a blog but she has a Fantastic Pinterest (Fatimaponte Pinterest) on which she has been collecting tutorials from all over to help and assist like-minded people. Anna, has done a collection of tutorials as well, on her blog, Anna's Miniatures. So check them both out AFTER you have dressed the Edwardian metal bed!!!! I am So Stoked, to learn more about this project, Lucille. You are a woman of hidden talents it seems. God bless you, forego the blog, BUILD! Not having experience but doing what you need to do, is how you gain it. I remember the first time the lock broke off on the bathroom door. I had never changed a lock before but I decided to see if I could and I did it. There is a sense of accomplishment when that happens, as i KNOW you feel about your bed.
