FOILED AGAIN AND AGAIN!

Unbeknownst to me until now, I thought that if the photos were in your file, they would still be there even if someone did something stupid like hit the delete button.  I thought the photos could be retrieved, but the file is deleted in it' entirety.  Again.  So this then is the filler until I can get up enough steam to re-shoot the series AGAIN.  This was for Alice.  The bed linen is all lined with tin foil which you can shape into folds and pleats without loads of glue.  I used 2 kinds of glue for this bed, Unique Stitch fabric glue brushed on with a brush onto the tin foil and then pressed into the fabric.  The other glue is a favorite of mine called Quick-Grab which I purchased at Wal-Mart.  It is a gloppy, messy glue and has a tendency to oooze if the cap is left off, but it grabs and hold super quick!  I used it to adhere the bed skirt to the mat board which supports the mattress.  I also used it to glue the sheet to the foam because the foam doesn't absorb the glue like it does for a water based glue.  I'm telling you about bed linen because it connects to the linen in the Breakfast Trays that you were inquiring about.  Once the foil is secured you can manipulate the fabric over and over to get the effect that you want,  and you will cut down on the amount of glue because the foil will stay put until you move it.  I lined a bread basket with a foil backed cloth and I draped it over the edge and filled it with breads.  When I needed to change the cloth, the whole thing lifted out without damaging the basket beneath.  It is really a "GooD ThinG" as Martha Stewart use to say.(  I wonder does she STILL say that?)

This is an upgrade on the bed for the ARTHUR. Right before I "shrunk the kids', I looked at the bed photos and felt they needed something MORE.

I think that the 2 new black and white toile cushions, make the bed more lively and  interesting.

I placed the panel of toile just behind the bedhead which may become the drapes( lined with tin foil) in the bedroom of the ARTHUR

I'm starting to get inspired to get back to work on the ARTHUR,  (one of these days I am going to pick a new name for this dollhouse; perhaps I'll call it the BOB??)

And so ends what Alice in wonderland might have experienced ; " A Very Merry Un-Tutorial "to  all.

  1. Hi Elizabeth, your previous post about your bed came through google reader in its entirety. If you follow your own blog (privately) and view the blogs that you follow using google reader your post will remain visible to you even after it's been lost/deleted so you can copy it back to your blog from there. Your photos should be stored in a picasa album where you can re-use them. Not sure how much sense this makes to you but I hope it helps.

    1. Hello Giac Thank you for the compliment! I wasn't sure that anyone would like it because the colors are quite bold and the trend is for soft and muted tones. I'm not shy to use color, but I also want other people to like what I do. I hoped people wouldn't say "EEEEWWW, What was she thinking!!!!??" Having said that, I Really like the toile, too, BUT, it is taking the plan in another direction as you will soon see. Haven't you found that happens to your projects as well? They begin here and end.... THERE? ?
A big hug, back at you.

    2. Hello Elizabeth,
I think miniatures often represent their makers, so I think bold vivacious colors and prints are appropriate ;) I know the trend is soft but I think bold colors translate really well into miniatures. LOL....miniatures have a mind of their own my house started as a 4 foot 10 room house...8 feet and 21 rooms later...
      Big hug my vivacious friend!

    3. That is such a HUGE commitment, Giac! Was it 'GO BIG OR GO HOME'? hahaha I saw the size of the Manor and you are fortunate to have the room for your mini Mania. But I hear you, they Do have a mind of their own. There are times when I"m thinking Pink and the minis are saying RED! I think this is also what I look forward to, because that is when the project begins to take on LIFE and then we start working together. Obviously, this is where you are in the mini kingdom of 'Giacland'. We want to make it special and the houses will often tell us how, if we listen.
Big hug back at you, my Ambitious Friend

    1. Hello Alice! I was hoping to talk to you again. I was able to retrieve the missing tutorial, and perhaps it will be around long enough this time for me to post for more than 1/2 a minute!!
LOVE that beautiful French style bed from the ' One inch Minis' tutorial which you posted on you blog and I am in total Awe at the results that you've achieved! I admire your level of skill, I have none and must rely on ready-made or kits. I must Thank you for the original question, about the draping, as it helps to know what others find interesting and if you hadn't asked I would not have had the opportunity to see if the method could transfer to something "bed-sized."

    1. Bonjour Catherine, I read somewhere that humans spend 1/3 of their life in bed so the bed SHOULD be comfortable but I'm afraid that any mini person would only be heading for the chiropractor if they laid down on this one for even 1 night. The foil lining makes it LOOK soft and cosy but you can knock on it like wood. Well, a little exaggeration there ( don't panic Alice!!!) it is not THAT hard. But I thank you Catherine for the double compliment!

  6. Dear Elizabeth, The bed looks wonderful. However Uncle Sam looks a little perturbed (feelings of discomfort or uncertainty). Does he consider a bed with toile not to be quite made in America.
Wish I could be with you and Fatima today.
    Cheers Janine

  7. OH how you can read between the lines, Janine! You are correct, Uncle Sam and I almost came to BLOWS about the toile! I ended up reading him the riot act and made him take a "Time- Out" while I took his picture. It wasn't until after I developed them that I saw that he was pouting Big Time! This means war.
I won't have this "little so and so" messing up my hard earned posts. Doesn't he know who I AM????
    Somebody better tell him.

    1. Thank you Irene! As I was telling Giac ,a moment ago, I had pulled what I wanted to dress the bed in and it did NOT include the gingham or the toile. I had picked a different fabric as a possibility and when I got so far, the bed said 'NO'. Now that I have committed to this scheme, I shall have to re-evaluate the plans I had for the Arthur, as it was to have been American Country but now who knows? It was a surprise to me, the way it turned, out but I like it! I'm glad you do too!
